Hello gardeners,

Just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the meeting of Community
Gardeners coming up this Tuesday (Aug. 13) to discuss the formation of a
citywide Community Garden Council. We're having a series of neighborhood
meetings to gather input from gardeners about what types of issues you all
are facing right now and how a Garden Council could address those needs.
So we'd like to have input from every garden. Please join us! We're
meeting from 6:30 - 7:30 at the United South End Settlements at 566
Columbus Ave (near Mass Ave).

Feel free to give me a ring if you have any questions. 617.542.7696. If
I'm not in Betsy or Shea could also answer your questions.

See you there!
Maggie Scott

rain out - cleanup 7/29

John McLachlan

As seems to be our luck, the cleanup was rained out again yesterday.

We will be having a special cleanup on Monday, 7/29 from 6-7. This is in preparation for the concert on Tuesday night - we want to put our best foot forward.

Cleanup will be trash cleanup, grass cutting (if needed) and other aesthetic cleanup items (no heavy work).

Hope to see you all there!

(richard - can we get a translated sign up before Monday? You can FAX something to me or sarah if needed. Thanks)

The Police Will Respond to Your Concerns

mcqueenstudio <mcqueenstudio@...>

The police will respond to problems in the garden if we tell them
about them. Perhaps, like me you have seen the evidence of drug
using (I've picked up two hypodermic needles in the last two weeks,
so please keep and eye out). I have also noted the increasing
presence of homeless individuals who have been acting like the garden
is their bathroom (I have seen both bathing and defecating).

Please call Officer Vega in Area D Community Relations at 617-343-
4457. She will listen to your concerns and will alert police patrols
to be aware of these issues.

Remember, they will only know about these problems if we tell them.
Don't assume that someone else is reporting things ... do it
yourself!!

boulder seating

mcqueenstudio <mcqueenstudio@...>

Thanks to my brother Jim and his neighbor Chris, both from the
Rutland/Haven Street Garden, we have successfully moved two of the
stray boulders into a nice sitting arrangement under the birch tree.
Thanks also to John and Howard who helped and provided advice.

We also moved two of the concrete planters to the open public area in
preparation for drilling holes in the bottom and getting them in
operation. I will have a concrete drill bit early next week and will
again bring my extension cords to clean up. There is a third planter
by the bulletin board and I think, if Roger and Howard will let us
tap into their electric, we can complete the job ourselves without
continuing to wait for Klaus or a contractor or someone to do it.

moving things on Saturday

John McLachlan

Posted for ann:

I've gotten everything and almost everybody we need to move some of the boulders in the center section into a more reasonable arrangement. We're set now for sometime this Saturday around 2PM after the Silver Line festivities are over. I have a long pry-bar, a very sturdy dolly and a couple of guys ... not enough muscle power to really do the job so I hope that some of you are available to lend a hand! Placement advice is also welcome! Ken and I noted that there are three boulders clustered around the cherry tree. There is a single rock by the birch tree that is well placed and won't be moved because it is special to Tracey. But there are two more that should probably move toward that single rock ... to keep it company and provide a more conversational seating arrangement. So that's were we'll start, and two may be enough. We'll see
... come on by to lend a hand!

New Happy CAmper/Gardener

Janice V. <jabv@...>

Hello,
I accepted your most gracious invitation and signed on to the yahoo Berkeley Gardens group. This is the first and only "group" I've joind online. Hope this doesn't become a habit. I already spend too much time online.

Loved seeing the photos. . . almost as good as walking a block and a half to be there! I used janicebugos as my Yahoo ID since it wouldn't let me use the first five that I really wanted. Anyway, I am Janice Valverde, A11X, and thanks to Sarah H., I'm in the loop.
